Practical advice for writers and aspiring writers on how to get your work published. Are you unpublished, or have you had your first work published? Are you looking to build a career in writing? If so, this event could be for you!

Are you a writer or aspiring writer? Are you unpublished, or have you had your first work published? Are you looking to build a career in writing? If so, this event could be for you!

The Milet Publishing Event will consist of a range of presentations and workshops, in which industry professionals will give advice about fiction, journalism, features, web, poetry and children’s books.

Presenting writers will cover subjects such as: building a career as a writer; inspirations for writing; the discipline of writing; writing for different genres and tips on getting your work published.

Publishers and agents will share their perspectives on what types of writing they are looking for, how to write for the market, and how to approach publishers. They will show you examples of successful and unsuccessful submissions and a give you a review of publishing deals.

After the seminars, there will be a networking session, where you can get a chance to meet informally with industry professionals.

Outline of the Day

3pm - 4.30pm: Workshops

Choose from one of three workshops:

  • Workshop: Your first novel – being a writer, getting published and what publishers are looking for. (Please note this workshop is now full up.)
  • Workshop: How to get a children's book published.
  • Workshop: How to start a career in journalism.

5pm - 6pm: Presentation by Literary Agent

The role of agents, what makes a successful submission and a review of publishing deals
