Cybersalon's evening of discussion, digital work and entertainment explores the tensions and issues faced by designers working to a commercial brief while attempting to maintain a sense of social responsibility. Referencing their professional commercial experience the panel will also be looking at the 'First Things First' manifesto, the history of Culture Jamming, and the influence of Naomi Klein and Adbusters.

  • Ken Garland, designer, writer, teacher. Author of the original 'First Things First' manifesto and design work for CND in the 1960's.
  • Teal Triggs, Director of Postgraduate Studies, Faculty of Art, Design and Music, Kingston University and co-founder of the Women's Design+Research Unit (WD+RU).

The New Media Centre will feature work from graduates of the UK's leading information design degree course, Graphic Information Design (G I D) at the University of Westminster.
